Calvin's Sadie Heeringa Named CoSIDA Academic All-American in Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Division

Recent Calvin University graduate Sadie Heeringa has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Heeringa has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in the Division III Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Division.

A graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Heeringa is receiving the honor for the first time in her collegiate career.

Heeringa graduated from Calvin last month with a degree in biochemistry. She has been a regular member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the Calvin Dean's List. She has received United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches All-Academic Honors three times in cross country and twice in track and field.

Heeringa claimed All-America honors six times in her Calvin running career – five times in track and field and once in cross country. As a sophomore, she qualified for the 2020 NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile run with the national meet later cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She was later named a USTFCCCA Division III All-American in the mile run.

This fall she captured All-America honors in cross country by placing 17th at the NCAA III Championships. She then qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships where she garnered double All-America honors, taking fifth in the mile run and then running the anchor leg on Calvin's distance medley relay team.

She then qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships last month and claimed a pair of All-America berths, taking fifth in the 1500 meters and sixth in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 16:39.23 in the 5,000 meters was a new Calvin record. Heeringa also owns Calvin indoor records in the mile run (4:50.76) and 3,000 meters (9:41.32) while also running on Calvin's school-record distance medley relay team that clocked a time of 11:46.92.

This past April, she was selected as the recipient of Calvin's Kay Tiemersma Award, given to the top senior female student-athlete at Calvin.

Heeringa is one of Calvin student-athletes to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American this year, joining Ann Schriemer (women's volleyball), Gabby Timmer (women's basketball), Hunter Stearns (men's lacrosse) and Delaney Sall (women's cross country/track and field.)

Calvin has now produced 149 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans which ranks eighth on the all-time NCAA III list.
