2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Teams
Two members of the Calvin women's cross country and track and field programs have received Division III CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 honors. Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team from Calvin are senior Sadie Heeringa and sophomore Delaney Sall.
District 6 includes Division III schools from the states of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Both individuals are from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both individuals are also graduates of Grand Rapids Christian High School. As members of the all-district team, Heeringa and Sall both advance to the national ballot and are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.
Heeringa was recently graduated from Calvin with a degree in biochemistry. She has been a regular member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the Calvin Dean's List. She has received United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches All-Academic Honors three times in cross country and twice in track and field.
Heeringa has claimed All-America honors four times in her Calvin running career – three times in track and field and once in cross country. As a sophomore, she qualified for the 2020 NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile run with the national meet later cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She was later named a USTFCCCA Division III All-American in the mile run.
This fall she captured All-America honors in cross country by placing 17th at the NCAA III Championships. She then qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships where she garnered double All-America honors, taking fifth in the mile run and then running the anchor leg on Calvin's distance medley relay team.
She is currently competing at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Geneva, Ohio. On Saturday, she will compete in the 1500 meters and 5,000 meters.
Sall is a triple-major at Calvin with concentrations in Spanish, sociology and environmental studies. She was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll last spring and has been a regular member of the Calvin Dean's List. She was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in track and field last spring and to the USTFCCCA All-Academic cross country team this fall.
She has made her mark in both cross country and in track and field.
This fall she was a member of the All-MIAA Second Team and the Great Lakes All-Region Team in cross country while also running in Calvin's top-seven at the NCAA III Championships.
On the track, she has been a three-time NCAA III All-American. Last spring, she took seventh in the 800 meters at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships for her first All-America berth. This winter, she took eighth in the 800 meters and ran the 1200 meter leg on Calvin's fifth place distance medley relay team at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships for her two additional All-America citations. She was the MIAA champion in the 800 meters at the 2021 and 2022 MIAA Outdoor and MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships as well as the 2021 MIAA Indoor Champion in the 400 meters.
She is set to compete in the 800 meter prelims tomorrow afternoon at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
