The Calvin women's tennis team fell to 12-2 overall and 2-2 in MIAA competition with a 7-2 loss Friday afternoon to rival Hope inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Hope (11-7 overall, 3-0 MIAA) took all three doubles points, winning 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Hope clinched the match by winning four of the six singles flights.
Calvin picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Freshman Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) was the first Knight to pick up a point as she downed Saydee Johns of Hope 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) then picked up a hard-fought 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 5 singles, holding off Mikayo Coffey in the third set tiebreaker for the win.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Olivet at 2 p.m. inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
