ADRIAN, Mich. – Calvin improved to 12-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play with an 8-1 dual match at Adrian Tuesday afternoon.
Calvin rolled to three straight doubles points to gain the early advantage.
Senior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) and freshman Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Senior Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community) and junior Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) were victorious 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Brown defeated Vasiliki Gargasoulas 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Shoemaker dropped Elizabeth Himebauch 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Grissom defeated Bethany Posey 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) defeated Liv Depies 6-1. 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Ganop came up a winner at No. 6 singles, defeating Regan Snyder 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
COACHES COMMENT: "It was a good road win," said Calvin head women's tennis coach John Ross. "Any time you can win on the road in this league you come home smiling. We had good contributions throughout our lineup."
