Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – Calvin suffered a heart-breaking 12-11 loss at rival Hope Saturday afternoon at Van Andel Stadium.
The Knights held an 10-8 fourth quarter lead but Hope scored three straight goals with a man advantage inside the final 4:04 to take an 11-10 lead.
Calvin junior Lainey Aldridge (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) scored an equalizer for Calvin with 1:07 remaining. The goal came with Calvin down a player.
Hope gained possession on the subsequent draw control and scored the game-winning goal with just 13 seconds left in regulation.
Hope (8-6 overall, 3-2 MIAA) led 4-2 after one quarter of play but Calvin (5-8 overall, 2-3 MIAA) outscored the Flying Dutch 4-1 in the second quarter to lead 6-5 at halftime.
The teams scored two goals each in the third quarter, allowing Calvin to take an 8-7 lead into the final quarter of play.
Goals from junior Kelly Ruha (Plymouth, Mn./Robbinsville Armstrong HS) and freshman Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg HS) allowed Calvin to take a 10-8 lead with 11:21 left in the fourth quarter.
A yellow card to Calvin with under five minutes to play put Hope in a man-up advantage and the Flying Dutch made use of the opportunity, scoring three straight goals.
Junior goalie Jessica Camp (O' Fallon, Il./O' Fallon Township High School) had a big game for Calvin in defeat with 13 saves, making a handful of acrobatic saves on Hope free position attempts.
Senior Brenna Otte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had three goals, one assist and three draw controls for the Knights. Ruha had two goals. Senior Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) had one goal and five draw controls.
Also scoring single goals for the Knights Aldridge, senior Madison Brown (Granger, Ind./Penn HS). Chang, Aldridge, freshman Katie Winkle (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior Makaelah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./Covenant Christian Academy).
Both teams finished with 25 shots at goal.
