ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin women's tennis team improved to 15-2 overall and to 5-2 in the MIAA with a 7-2 conference win over Trine University Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Knights also clinch a spot in the upcoming four-team MIAA Tournament.
Calvin won two of the three doubles points and then took five of the six singles points to claim the win.
In doubles action, senior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg HS) and freshman Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) defeated Jadyn Davis and Bekah Trent 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) and senior Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community School) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Eva Morales and Lizzie Welker.
In singles action, Brown defeated Davis 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
Shoemaker dropped Trent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) defeated Morales 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Lewis then defeated Ellie Cole 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Ganop recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kennedy Outwater at No. 6 singles.
NEXT UP: Calvin will now break until April 27 when it hosts Alma at 4 p.m. in Grand Rapids.
