ALBION – The Calvin women's tennis team improved to 14-2 overall and to 4-2 in the MIAA with a 9-0 win at Albion Tuesday afternoon.
The Knights remain in firm control of third place in the MIAA standings.
Calvin picked up three quick points in doubles action.
Senior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) rolled to an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) and freshman Averi Brown (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community HS) and junior Cam Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) claimed an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Schellenboom defeated Saige Jost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Brown defeated Katie Valade 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Grissom defeated Breh Ruger 6-1, 6-2. Lewis defeated Josie Dunn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Ganop collected a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alura Reed at No. 5 singles.
Cyrus then topped Savannah McDonald 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
COACHES COMMENT: "I was very happy with our performance," said Calvin head women's tennis coach John Ross. "Any MIAA win on the road is a good one. I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is a very fun group to coach. We are looking forward to our next match."
