KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Calvin's unbeaten run in dual match play came to an end as the Knights fell at MIAA foe Kalamazoo 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon inside the Markham Tennis Center.
Calvin (11-1 overall, 1-1 MIAA) fell behind 3-0 after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, senior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and freshman Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) held a slim lead until late, falling 8-7 with the Hornets winning 7-4 in the tiebreaker.
Calvin's lone singles point came from freshman Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) as she topped Maddie Hurley 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Junior Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) pushed her No. 6 singles match to three sets before falling to Meghan Killmaster 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2 tiebreaker).
Calvin returns to action on April 5 when it travels to Adrian for a 4 p.m. conference match.
