Calvin's clinching point came at No. 5 singles with freshman Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) downing Morgan Summons 7-5, 6-3.
COACHES COMMENT: "This was a very exciting win against a quality opponent," said Calvin head women's tennis coach John Ross. "This is a very close team and they have bonded well and found different ways to win with different players stepping up when needed. Today we needed Averi at the end of the match to come through. She knew the pressure was on her and despite being a freshman, she handled that pressure wonderfully. I am very proud of her but more importantly I am proud of this group for working so hard and supporting one another this season."
NEXT UP: Calvin will open its MIAA campaign on Saturday, hosting Saint Mary's at 1 p.m.
