WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Calvin women's indoor track and field team crowned two more All-Americans on Saturday and finished 25th in the final team standings at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Senior Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:47.32 while sophomore Delaney Sall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.40.
The Knights finish 25th in the final team standings with nine points.
In the 800 meters, Sall became the first Calvin Indoor Track and Field All-American in the 800 meter run on Saturday. In doing so, she boosted her career All-America berths to three to go with her All-America race in the 800 meters at the 2021 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and her berth on Calvin's fifth place distance medley relay team Friday evening.
Heeringa became Calvin's second indoor women's All-American in the 3,000 meter run and the first since Nicole Michmerhuizen finished fourth in 2014.
Heeringa ran in the middle of the pack early in the race, moved into the top eight with a mile to go and made a strong finish over the final 200 meters, missing fourth place by five-hundreths of a second. Her race came in the second-to-last event of the competition and helped cement a top-25 team finish for the Knights.
On Friday night, Calvin's distance medley relay team of Sall, freshman Cora Moore (Phoenix, Az./North Phoenix Prep), sophomore Jenna Allman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline HS) and Heeringa placed fifth after entering the weekend seeded 11th.
COACHES COMMENT: "We had a great weekend and I proud of our athletes and the way they competed," said Calvin head track and field coach Bret Otte. "We were entered in three events headed into the weekend and we scored in all three which was outstanding. I thought Sadie's race at the end today really closed out our weekend with a flourish."
