ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin women's indoor track and field team had a huge day at the GVSU Tune-Up Invitational on Friday.
Senior Renee Miller (Marlette, Mich./Marlette HS) led the way with career-best performances in a slew of events. Miller won the 60 meter hurdles in a career-best time of 9.62 while placing fourth in the 200 meters with a career-best time of 26.84. She also captured first place in the long jump (17-3 ½).
In the mile run, junior Sienna Ruiter-Diaz (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Christian Academy) had a personal-best time of 5:16.12 in the mile run as did senior Haley Weesies (Grand Rapids, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) who was 10th in a time of 5:26.61.
In the 400 meters, freshman Judith Veldboom (Ellsworth, Mich./Ellsworth Community Schools) had a career-best time of 1:05.55 in the 400 meter dash.
Freshman Natalie Tebben (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian HS) did the same in the 800 meters, taking fifth with a time of 2:22.12 while Ruiter-Diaz was seventh in the race with a career-best time of 2:23.87.
In the 4x400 meter relay, junior Katie Georges (Bartonville, Il./Limestone Community), freshman Kirsten DenBleyker (Gilbert, Az./Valley Christian HS), freshman Maddie Helmus (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) and Tebben took fourth with a time of 4:27.28.
Sophomore Jessye Vanden Akker (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) captured the triple jump with a person-best jump of 34-7 ½. Freshman Karen Bekhet (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was 13th in the shot put with a throw of 36-4 ¾.
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for next Saturday at Trine University.
