Calvin ACHA D1 Hockey Rolls Over Roosevelt in 11-2 Victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin's ACHA Division I hockey team won convincingly against Roosevelt University Friday night. The final score was 10-2.

The Calvin Knights improved their record to 9-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the GLCHL.

The Calvin Knights dominated from the drop of the puck, scoring 3 goals in the first period, to the Roosevelt Lakers' zero. Jacob Siebenga started the scoring for the Knights with 18:11 on the clock. Joel Dieleman followed with a goal with 4:49 remaining and Steven Ickes tacked on one more with 2:22 remaining. The score at the end of the first was 3-0, with the Knights in early control.

The Lakers responded in the second period. Max Finner quickly scored the first Lakers' goal with 18:52 remaining in the period, a power play goal. Frank Moore continued the comeback effort, scoring with 10:03 remaining. Lou Vesperini responded for the Knights, scoring with 5:23 remaining. The score at the end of the second was 4-2.

The third period saw the Knights unleash a barrage of goals. Helped by four Laker penalties, the Knights scored 6 goals. Ian Elkins scored first, with 16:50 on the clock. Krzysztof Petryla followed with 2 goals within 3 minutes, both assisted by Jacob Siebenga. Josh Ernst scored with 6:25 remaining, and Krzysztof Petryla scored his third goal of the night only about a minute later. Keith Schenkel capped the scoring for Knights with a last minute goal. The final score was 10-2, in favor of the Knights.

Carlos Siso was in goal for the Knights and recorded 17 saves. The Knights outshot the Lakers 40-17. The Knights were aided by 3 power play goals, giving up one.

COACHES COMMENT: "We had a good start and then took some undisciplined penalties," said Calvin head coach Mike Petrusma. "The guys responded to the talk in the locker room and we came out focused on playing the game the right way."

NEXT UP: Calvin hosts Roosevelt for a rematch tomorrow, Saturday, November 5. Start time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
