The Calvin men's swimming and diving team opened its season Friday night against Division II Grand Valley State University.
The Knights entered the meet ranked 14th in the latest College Swim Coaches Association Division III poll while Grand Valley came in ranked sixth.
Grand Valley State defeated Calvin 165-75.
The Knights had several strong performances.
Calvin picked up a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of Noah Holstege, Caleb Gemmen, Forrest Peterson and Jacob Heeres hit the wall in a time of 1:32.21, nipping a squad from Grand Valley by two-tenths of a second.
Peterson placed third in the 50 freestyle in 21.39 with Vlad Molin fourth (21.57) and Noah Holstege fifth (21.69).
In the 200 IM, Timothy Hays was second in 1:55.39. Hays later took fourth in the 100 backstroke (52.70).
Hudson DeBoer placed fifth in the 200 free (1:48.35) with Bryce Miner sixth (1:49.70).
Jacob Heeres had a big swim in the 100 freestyle, taking second in a time of 46.21.
Calvin went 2-3-4 in the 100 breaststroke Caleb Gemmen took second (59.84) with Miner third (1:00.65) and Anthony Crudele fourth (1:01.65).
Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of Holstege, Heeres, Molin and Corey Campbell placed second in a time of 1:24.05.
Calvin did well in both diving competitions. Wilson Goodpasture took second on the three-meter board (240.00) while Jason Perez was third (220.65) and Jay Cen fourth (213.15).
On the one-meter board, Goodpasture was second (241.95), Perez third (202.72) And Cen fourth (196.65).
