ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin women's track and field team had a big day at the Mike Lints Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Delaney Sall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) made her indoor season debut in super fashion, winning the 800 meters in a time of 2:15.17 while senior teammate Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was second in a career-best time of 2:18.98. The time by Sall ranks eighth on the Division III Women's Indoor Track list while Heeringa's time ranks 17th. Sophomore Jenna Allman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline HS) was seventh with a career-best time of 2:25.58. Senior Brynnne Winiarski (Naperville Il./Neuqua Valley HS) was 11th with a career-best time of 2:35.67.
In the mile run, Heeringa took third with a career-best time of 4:56.21 which ranks fourth on the Division III list. Allman was 14th with a career-best time of 5:14.88 while Winiarski was 25th with a career-best time of 5:27.80.
Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of Sall, junior Katie Georges (Bartonville, Il./Limestone Community), freshman Samantha Buist (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) and sophomore Alyssa Gustman (Newyago, Mich./Fremont HS) was seventh with a time of 4:24.37.
Senior Renee Miller (Marlette, Mich./Marlette HS) had a big day, placing sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.69) and third in the long jump (16-7).
In the triple jump, sophomore Jessye Vanden Akker (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was third with a career-best mark of 34-6 ¼.
Calvin produced in the pole vault with Buist taking 12th (8-2 ¾) and freshman Isabella Charron (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) taking 13th (8-2 ¾).
Senior Waverly VerHill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian HS) took eighth in the weight throw (48-5 ½) while freshman Karen Bekhet (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was fourth in the shot put (34-4 ¾).
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the Bill Clinger Classic next Friday at Grand Valley State.
