ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin recorded a 13-6 win at Adrian Saturday afternoon at Docking Stadium.

The conference victory keeps Calvin (5-5 overall, 3-1 MIAA) in the thick of the MIAA title race as the Knights are a half-game behind 3-0 Albion.

Calvin scored the first four goals of the game to grab the early momentum and used it to take an 8-2 halftime lead.

Adrian (2-9 overall, 1-3 MIAA) cut the deficit down to five at 9-4 nine-and-a-half minutes into the second half but Calvin responded three unanswered goals to seal the win.

Senior Emma Verrett (Beaver, Pa./Beaver County Christian HS) had six goals on seven shots. She now has 123 goals and 153 points in her career, ranking fourth on the Calvin career list in both categories.

Junior Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) had three goals and won a whopping 10 draw controls. Freshman Kelly Ruha (Plymouth, Mn./Robbinsville Armstrong) had a pair of goals to go with an assist.

Sophomore Cosette Ferris (Delafield, Wisc./Arrowhead HS) had a goal and three ground balls. Senior Allyson Mesman (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) also scored one goal.

Calvin outshot Adrian 27-18. Senior Meghan Economou (Hartland, Mich./Hartland HS) had six saves in goal.

COACHES COMMENT: "We had a great team effort today," said Calvin head women's lacrosse coach Blake Boehm. "We were 85% on clears, won 65% of the draws, had a 50% save percentage and we converted 68% of our shots on goal. Our defense was stout, and we caused some problems for them in transition. We are still working on fine-tuning some things but I look forward to ironing them out over the course of next week in practice."

NEXT UP: Calvin will now break until next Saturday when it hosts Alma at 1 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
