GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin claimed a 9-0 conference victory over Albion Saturday. The Knights are now 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA heading into the final week of the conference regular season.

An energized Calvin team swept all three doubles points in short order. Senior Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) and junior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Junior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) and junior Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community HS) were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) and junior Sara Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) triumphed 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Bonner blew by Saige Jost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Brown was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Breh Ruger at No. 2 singles and Schellenboom a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Mya Duncan at No. 3 singles. Schellenboom is now 6-2 in singles play this spring.

At No. 4 singles, Cyrus rolled past Savannah McDonald 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Ganop was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 5 singles and junior Carrie Scofield (Pioneertown, Ca./Yucca Valley HS) an 8-4 winner at No. 6 singles.

COACHES COMMENT: "I was very happy with the way our women's team played today," said Calvin head tennis coach John Ross. "Our effort and determination at the start of the match in doubles was excellent and I liked our patience in singles. It was a good team win."

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Trine next Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.
