GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 conference victory over Olivet Tuesday afternoon at Calvin's Strikwerda Tennis Courts.
The Knights improve to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA.
Calvin opened by winning all three doubles points. Senior Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) teamed up with junior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) for a hard-fought 8-5 win over Olivet's top tandem. Junior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) then won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Junior Sara Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and junior Carrie Scofield (Pioneertown, Ca./Yucca Valley HS) won by default at No. 3 doubles to claim the third point of the match.
In singles action, Scofield was a winner by default at No. 6 singles. Kroeze climbed past Kiandra Marciniak 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ally Sears at No. 4 singles. Schellenboom toppled Makenzie Borg 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles with Brown dropping Emily Foulk 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Olivet's lone point came at No. 1 singles.
Calvin will host Albion at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts.
