GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Adrian Saturday at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts. The Knights improve to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the MIAA.
Calvin opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. Senior Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) and junior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) were 8-3 winners at No. 1 doubles. Junior Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) and sophomore Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) were 8-7 (7-5) winners at No. 2 doubles. Junior Sara Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and junior Carrie Scofield (Yucca Valley HS) were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Bonner powered her way to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Samantha Cyrus at No. 1 singles. Brown took care of Bethany Posey 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Schellenboom was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles.
Cyrus claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maddison Wagner at No. 4 singles with Scofield downing Nira Fawler 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Kroeze won the final match on the court, doing so at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) win over Jamie Nicholls.
