The Knights welcomed the Bulldogs of Adrian College to Grand Rapids Christian High School Saturday afternoon for a non-conference women's lacrosse match.

Both teams entered the game looking for their first win of the year. The two sides traded early goals until the score was 3-3. Calvin started to pull away at that point, led by junior Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) and senior Emma Verrett (Beaver, Pa./Beaver County Christian HS). Calvin went on an 11-2 scoring run, stretching into the second half lead to take control of the game. 

Adrian made a charge late with three goals in a row, but the Knights hung onto the lead. Calvin won the game 15-8 for its first win of the season. 

Gilbert led the way offensively for the Knights, scoring six goals in the effort. Verrett added three goals as the second leading scorer for the Knights. Junior Madison Brown (Granger, Ind./Penn HS) and junior Brenna Otte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) added two goals apiece, while Brown had a nice game facilitating from behind the net with four assists. Sophomore Jessica Camp (O' Fallon, Il./O' Fallon Township HS) contributed from the crease, saving seven of fifteen shots while going the distance. 

"We are starting to click a little, putting some stuff together" Calvin Head Coach Blake Boehm said. "This is just a possession game, and the story of the game was that we were securing possessions and taking advantage of opportunities. It was a fun game." 

Adrian dropped to 0-4 with the loss, while Calvin jumped to 1-3 on the year.
