Calvin Women's Tennis Falls at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Calvin opened its 2021 MIAA campaign with a 6-3 loss at Saint Mary's Saturday afternoon.

Saint Mary's took two of the three doubles points and then rolled up four wins out of six in singles play to clinch the match.

Calvin's lone doubles point came at No. 3 doubles with juniors Sara Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and Carrie Scofield (Pioneertown, Ca./Yucca Valley HS) winning a tight 8-6 match.

In singles play, senior Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) pulled out a tight three-set win at No. 2 singles, winning 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 (tiebreaker) over Lucy Chamberlin.

Junior Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community HS) also claimed a come-from-behind three-set win, downing Meredith Heckert 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Calvin is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Kalamazoo at 4 p.m.
