LANSING, Mich. - Calvin closed out competition at the Capitol City Classic with victories over Concordia (Mich.) and Olivet Nazarene.
Calvin rolled past Concordia 7-0 Friday evening and then pulled out a tight 4-3 victory over Olivet Nazarene Saturday afternoon.
The Knights are now 2-2 on the season.
In the victory over Concordia, Calvin rolled through the doubles competition. Junior Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and senior Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg HS) and Alexis Ganop (Riverview, Mich./Riverview Community) were 6-1 winners at No. 2 doubles. Senior Sydney Ellsworth (Williamston, Mich./Williamston HS) and junior Carrie Scofield (Pioneertown, Ca./Yucca Valley HS) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Bonner downed Ellie Fritcha 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Schellenboom claimed a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) defeated Lindsey Luff 8-3 at No. 3 singles. Scofield downed Payton Woodruff 8-1 at No. 4 singles, freshman Elisabeth Knot (Lansing, Il./Illliana Christian HS) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles and freshman Laura Krikke (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles.
In the win over Olivet Nazarene, Ganop and Cyrus clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Kroeze was clutch in singles, clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Calvin is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Spring Arbor for a 4 p.m. match.
