Grand Rapids, MI – The Calvin University men's basketball plays in a home matchup against Adrian College this Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. (Edit: note the adjusted start time). The game will be the MIAA opener for both teams.
The Teams: Calvin and Adrian. The Knights enter the game with a 4-3 overall record and most recently defeated conference opponent Olivet College with a score of 85-67. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 2-9 overall record and recently beat Alma with a score of 85-80.
The Coaches: Bill Sall is in his 2nd season as head coach of the Calvin men's basketball program. He led the Knights to a 15-11 overall record last year and made it to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals. Nick Giard is in his 5th season as head coach of the Adrian men's basketball program. In the 2017-2018, the Bulldogs finished with a 17-9 overall record and 8-6 in the MIAA which was third in the standings and landed them a spot in the post season MIAA tournament.
The Players: The Knights have four players averaging double digits in scoring. Thad Shymankski is averaging 18.4 points per game while teammate Emmett Warners is averaging 15.3. Bradon Paul is now averaging 12.4 points per game while teammate Jordan Katje is averaging 10.0 points. The Bulldogs have four players averaging double digits in scoring: Kendall Bellamy (17.1), Victor Sheffey (13.5), Robert Warrick (12.9), Connor Pelham (10.9).
