Grand Rapids, MI – The Calvin University men's basketball plays in a home matchup against Olivet College this Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The Teams: Calvin and Olivet. The Knights enter the game with a 3-3 overall record and most recently fell to conference opponent Hope College with a score of 79-77. The Comets enter the game with an 0-9 overall record and recently suffered a loss to Alma by a score of 84-81.
The Coaches: Bill Sall is in his 2nd season as head coach of the Calvin men's basketball program. He led the Knights to a 15-11 overall record last year and made it to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals. Sam Hargraves is in his 2nd season as the head coach of the Olivet men's basketball program. Prior to arriving at Olivet, Hargraves was the Alma College head coach for eight seasons. Hargraves played three season of varsity basketball at Calvin and was named to the All-MIAA Second Team in 1998.
The Players: The Knights have four players averaging double digits in scoring. Thad Shymankski is averaging 19.5 points per game while teammate Emmett Warners is averaging 14.0. Jordan Katje is now averaging 10.7 points per game while teammate Brandon Paul is averaging 12.2 points. The Comets have four players averaging double digits in scoring: Ryan Robinette (15.0), Derrick Johnson (12.0), Eddie Thigpen (12.8), Britton Angell (11.2).
