ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin women's track and field team opened its indoor season on Friday at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open.
Jess VandenAkker had a top-eight finish, placing eighth in the triple jump (33-7 ¼). She also posted a mark of 14-4 ½ in the long jump.
Renee Miller had Calvin's top mark in the long jump, leaping 16-5 ¼. Yasmine Banares went 13-11 ½ while Alyssa Gustman went 13-2 ¾.
In the shot put, Karen Bekhet was 13th with a throw of 36-4 ¼ while Jane Dunlap was 15th at 32-7 1/2. Lindsey Kossick had Calvin's top performance in the weight throw, producing a mark of 33-3 while Bekhet came in at 32-7 ½.
Taylor Smelker ran a time of 1:15.25 in the 400 meters. Cora Moor went 28.37 in the 200 meters while Sadie Kornoelje ran a time of 24.24.
In the 800 meters, Marissa McManus went 2:39.21 while Maddie Helmus went 2:41.94.
Calvin recorded a time of 4:24.64 in the 4x400 meter relay. The relay consisted of Moore, Katie Georges, McManus and Helmus.
