Calvin Women's Tennis Claws Past Cougars of Spring Arbor

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's tennis got its second win of the season with a victory over Spring Arbor inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Complex Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-3.

The duo of sophomore Emily Schellenboom (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian junior Alexis Bonner ((Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central) picked up the first point of the day for the Knights at No. 1 doubles. The Knights defeated the No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-2.

Calvin fell at No. 2 doubles with sophomore Grace Brown (Middleville, MI / Thornapple Kellogg) and sophomore Maya Klopfenstein (Goshen, IN / Concord) with a score of 8-6. The duo of junior Sydney Ellsworth (Holland, MI / Holland Christian) and freshmen Cameron Cyrus (Naperville, IL / Neuqua Valley) fell at No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-1.

The singles started and the Knights started to pick up the points. Maya Klopfenstein took down Sela Clifford at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Grace Brown came out on top over Paige Trela at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

Emily Schellenboom kept the winning going for the Knights with a win over Morgan Summons at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Alexis Bonner was victorious at No. 4 singles, topping Lindsey Scott, 6-1,6-1.

At No. 5 singles Cameron Cyrus brought home the win for the Knights over Shae Wright, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. Sydney Ellsworth fell to Karlie Raphael at No. 6 singles, 6-7, 3-6.

"Our team responded incredibly well to some adversity this week" said Head Women's Tennis Coach Tim Morey. "It was a significant test. Top to bottom we finished matches and executed game plans well, especially after inconsistent performances in the doubles matches.  t is always great to get the W at home and I appreciate how this team continues to show resilience in the face of adversity."

NEXT UP: Calvin will head to Judson next Friday at 5:00 p.m. CST.
