Women's Tennis Falls at Wheaton

HANOVER PARK, Ill. – The Calvin women's tennis team picked up its first loss of the season against a strong Wheaton team on the road. The Thunder rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Knights.

"Today was a tough match, but a great learning experience," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "Wheaton is a very good team and we had to battle in all nine matches. I hope we are able to use today to get better and improve for our trip to Ohio."

Calvin moves to 3-1 on the year and Wheaton improves to 9-1 on the season.

The lone victory of the night came at No. 1 singles. Freshman Leah Newhof toppled Katie Park, 6-3, 6-3.

Newhof is 4-0 in singles dual play on the season.

Sophomore Brittney Statema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) battled and forced a third set on court six, but fell to Emme Lindquist, 6-2, 3-6, 5-10.

The Thunder took all three doubles matches, 8-5.

The Knights look to bounce back against Wooster and Marietta on Saturday in Ohio.
