ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin women's tennis team finished the regular season with a 9-0 victory at Trine on Saturday afternoon. Calvin finishes the regular season with a 13-6 record and a 6-2 mark in the MIAA. This is the sixth 9-0 victory for Calvin and the fourth in the MIAA.
"We played a nice match today," said Calvin Kevin Van Haitsma. "We played clean in doubles to get us off to a quick start and our singles were solid as well. This finishes off a nice regular season for us, finishing in the top three in the MIAA again. Now we look forward to our conference tournament in Kalamazoo."
The junior duo of Ellie Benzel and Claire Spoelhof won at No. 1 doubles over Madison Hatkevich and Brennan, 8-2. The winning continued at No. 2 doubles, with sophomore Jessica Bouma and sophomore Micaela Seazzu beating Lexi Mack and Kaitlin Black, 8-1. Sophomore Lark Foote and junior Liz Turner defeated Kinnsey Pass and Sloan Davis at No. 3 doubles, 8-2, they also finished the MIAA season with a 7-1 record.
Ellie Benzel topped Lexi Mack at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Benzel finished with a 6-2 record at No. 1 singles in the MIAA.
Claire Spoelhof sank Madison Hatkevich at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
Jessica Bouma beat Tarah Brennan at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Micaela Seazzu edged Kinnsey Pass at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 7-6. She has now won in seven-straight matches.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Alyssa Bowman blanked Kaitlin Black, 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Kari Kroeze cruised to victory at No. 6 singles over Carlee Richardson, 6-0, 6-0.
Jessica Bouma, Kari Kroeze and Micaela Seazzu all finished MIAA play with a 7-1 record in singles.
The Knights earned the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Tournament and will compete at Kalamazoo on Thursday.
