OLIVET, Mich. – The Calvin women's tennis team secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament with a 9-0 victory at Olivet today. The Knights improved to 12-6 on the year and 5-2 in the MIAA. Olivet is now 7-8 on the year and 3-3 in the MIAA.
"I am really happy with today," said Calvin head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "We played some good matches today. The No. 1 doubles had a good tight match against a couple of good players. This was a great weekend for us."
Sophomore Lark Foote and junior Liz Turner notched the first point at No. 3 doubles, defeating Isabel Snyder and Lydia Drikakis, 8-1.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Jessica Bouma and sophomore Micaela Seazzu downed Haley Powers and Breanne Rudlaff, 8-3.
The junior duo of Ellie Benzel and Claire Spoelhof edged Rachael Hager and Maddy Drikakis, 8-6.
Ellie Benzel was victorious at No. 1 singles, downing Rachael Hager, 6-3, 6-1.
Claire Spoelhof earned the victory at No. 2 singles over Maddy Drikakis, 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, Jessica Bouma bounced Haley Powers, 6-0, 6-2.
Micaela Seazzu won at No. 4 singles over BreAnne Rudlaff, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Alyssa Bowman swept Rae Claramunt at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Kari Kroeze picked up the point at No. 6 singles over Jeanette Fisher, 6-2, 7-5.
The Knights finish the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Trine.
