Women's Lacrosse Kicks Kalamazoo, 12-8

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team picked up a road victory at Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improved to 4-1 in the MIAA with the 12-8 victory against the Hornets. Calvin improves to 7-5 overall and Kalamazoo falls to 2-3 in MIAA play.

"Kalamazoo is an athletic team with a strong game plan," said head coach Blake Boehm. "We traded scores with them for a while, at halftime we made some adjustments and started to pull away. We were much better at the draw and the ride in the second half, which helped us secure extra possessions. The team is really good at adjusting on the fly. They held together and competed for the full 60 minutes."

Freshman Lauryn Slachter started the scoring on Saturday afternoon with a goal at the 26:31 mark.

The Hornets tied the game a minute later. Emma Hall broke the tie with 24:45 left in the first half.

Kalamazoo scored the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead.

The Knights would score three-straight goals to take a 5-3 lead with five minutes left in the first half. Sophomore Emma Hall started the scoring spree, junior Emily Cefaratti and sophomore Amanda Davio also scored a goal to give Calvin the lead.

The Hornets would score the next two goals to tie the game with three minutes left in the half.

Emily Cefaratti broke the tie with a goal on a free position shot. Lauryn Slachter scored a goal with 30 seconds left in the half and Calvin would go into halftime leading, 7-6.

Kalamazoo would strike first in the second half. Amanda Davio would score with 17:04 left in the game on a free position shot. Kalamazoo would tie the game at eight a minute later.

The Knights would close the game on a 4-0 run to seal the victory.

Freshman Kelly Pepper scored two-straight goals to give Calvin the lead.

Freshman Emma Tilma and freshman Genevieve Schneeman recorded the final two goals.

Freshman Ellis Chalfant recorded three saves and recorded her seventh victory of the season.

Calvin had five players with two goals, Amanda Davio had a game-high five points.

The Knights outshot the Hornets on Saturday, 33-13.

The Maroon and Gold return to action on Tuesday when the Knights return home for the final home game of the year against Adrian.
