SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Calvin women's tennis team came up just short on Wednesday afternoon against Spring Arbor. The Cougars edged the Knights 5-4. Calvin is now 10-6 on the year and Spring Arbor improves to 14-7.
"Today was a tough loss," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "We had our chances today but we just came up short. We showed a lot of fight and we are going to use today to help us prepare for a very important conference weekend."
The Cougars started the day winning two of the three doubles points on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights lone doubles point came at No. 3 doubles. The team of sophomore Lark Foote and junior Liz Turner defeated Alyssa Bart and Jewell Allen, 8-2.
Sophomore Jessica Bouma was victorious at No. 3 singles over Monika Wynne, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 4 singles, sophomore Micaela Seazzu earned the victory over Emma Joseph, 6-1, 6-2.
Liz Turner won at No. 5 singles over Morgan Keeler, 6-1, 6-1.
The Knights return to MIAA play on Friday afternoon when they travel to Adrian to face the Bulldogs.
