Men's Tennis Tops Lawrence, 7-2

ORLANDO, Fla. – The men's tennis team closed out spring break with a 7-2 victory over Lawrence on Friday afternoon. Calvin improves to 4-2 on the year and Lawrence falls to 5-3.

"It was a nice way to end a tough spring break," said head coach John Ross. "Lawrence is a very well coached team and they battled all day. I am proud of how the guys did today and this week."

The Maroon and Gold started the day sweeping doubles. Sophomore Matt VanWinkle and junior Taylor Asfour defeated David Jumes and Brian DeCorte at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, senior Matt Buesing and sophomore David Brown defeated Bill Schuman-Kline and David Brooker, 8-6 and freshman Jason Wolters and freshman Andrew Airgood won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

David Brown was victorious at No. 3 singles, defeating Bill Schuman-Kline, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 4 singles, Taylor Asfour won over Adam Busch, 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Christopher Dausman notched a victory over Ethan Perushek at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Jason Wolters topped Izaya Turenne at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Lawrence won at No. 1 and 2 singles on Friday.

The Knights will return to the courts on March 30 when they travel to Spring Arbor.
