The Calvin women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 conference victory over Olivet Saturday morning to improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in MIAA play.
The Knights are currently in fourth place in the MIAA standings, right behind 5-2 Saint Mary's.
Calvin roared through doubles play with three straight victories. Senior Megan Visser and sophomore Claire Spoelhof picked up an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Ellie Benzel and freshman Jessica Bouma were 8-2 winners at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Liz Turner and freshman Kari Kroeze 8-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Calvin then won all six of its singles matches in straight sets. Senior Megan Visser was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, Benzel a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles, Spoelhof a 7-6, 6-4 winner at No. 3 singles, Bouma a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles, senior Ali Roode a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles and Turner a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 6 singles.
"I thought our doubles play was the real spark for our team," said Calvin women's tennis coach Kevin VanHaitsma. "We came out focused and very crisp and that momentum continued throughout the rest of the match."
Calvin will conclude its regular season campaign next week with home matches against Bethel College (April 21) Trine (April 22) and Trine (April 25).
