ORLANDO, FL - The Calvin men's tennis team evened its season record at 4-4 with an 8-1 win over Lawrence University (WI) Friday afternoon. The contest marked Calvin's final match of its spring break trip.
Calvin took all three doubles points. Senior Loukas Peterson (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood HS) and freshman Taylor Asfour (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) won 8-3 at one doubles, sophomore Matt Buesing (Hoffman Estates, IL/Fremnd HS) and senior John Strikwerda (Holland/Holland Christian HS) won 8-6 at two doubles while junior Tom Griffin (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) and senior Stephen Healy (Twin Lakes, IN/Twin Lakes HS) won 8-3 at three doubles.
Griffin and Healy are now 5-3 on the year in doubles play.
Calvin then took five of the six singles points. Peterson pulled out a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 win at one singles. Buesing also went three sets a three singles, winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.
The Knights took the final three singles points in straight sets. Sophomore Klaas Walhout (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at four singles, Strikwerda was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at five singles and Healy a 6-0, 6-1 winner at six singles.
Calvin is back in action on April 2 when it travels to Kalamazoo for an MIAA conference match at 4 p.m.
