ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin University men's golf team started its defense of last season's MIAA championship with a second-place finish at MIAA Jamboree #1 at Zollner Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Knights finished the round with a 2-under par score of 282 on the par-71 course, trailing only host Trine University's final tally of 4-under par 280.
Senior
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) finished as the individual medalist thanks to a mistake-free round of 67. Tiller recorded four birdies and 14 pars during his round, including two birdies on his final two holes to clinch the individual lead.
Juniors
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Ford Erickson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) tied for ninth place on the day with matching round of 71 with the two players combining for eight birdies.
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) shot 2-over par 73 with the help of an eagle-two on the par four 15th hole.
Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian) shot 1-over par 72 playing as an individual wild card entrant.
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) shot 78 on the day.
Adrian College finished just behind the Knights in third place with a team score of 283 strokes. Albion College (290) and Hope College (300) rounded out the top five.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Good start to the MIAA season for us," head coach
Brian Bolt said. "We went into the day expecting to finish under par as a team and we were able to get that done. The MIAA season is a long grind but this finish puts us in good position going forward. Looking forward to building on this at our next tourney."
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action on Saturday, October 3, when the Knights compete in MIAA Jamboree #2 hosted by Adrian College at Tecumseh Golf Club.
