KANSASVILLE, Wis. – The Calvin University men's golf team had a strong second day at the Midwest Region Classic to finish 15th at the two-day event out of 43 teams at Brighton Dale Links.
The Knights entered the day in 25th place after an opening-round 309 on Friday and jumped 10 spots in the standings thanks to a Saturday team score of 293.
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) led the way for Calvin with a 1-under par 71 thanks to three birdies and an eagle on the par-five second hole to finish the event in a tie for 33rd place individually.
Ford Erickson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), Ethen Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) and
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) each shot 74 on the day to round out the Knights' top four, followed by
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) with a 79. Ian Bevis (Dead Man's Flats, Alberta, Canada/Edge School) played as a wild card individual entrant and did not count towards the team scoring and shot a 73 on the day.
Erickson finished in a tie for 68th place at 7-over par for the tournament. Bevis finished in a tie for 79th place, while Tiller tied for 87th at 9-over par.
Aurora University and DePauw University tied for the top score at the event with teams scores of 573 total strokes. Calvin finished the two-day event with 602 strokes.
COACH'S COMMENT: "This was the last tournament of our non-conference season and we made some good progress in round two," head coach
Brian Bolt said. "We are eager to test our skills next week in MIAA competition with a good mix of veterans and young players starting to make their mark."
