ADA, Ohio - Today the Calvin women's soccer team picked up its fourth consecutive win when it defeated the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern. After today's match the Knights improved to a 6-1 overall record while the Polar Bears fell to 2-4-2.
 
The Knights didn't wait too long to make their mark on the game when Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) found the ball at her feet in the 19th minute. With defenders closing in around her, she passed the ball off to junior Ellery Boeving (Howell, Mich./Howell) who fired a shot into the back of the net to give Calvin a quick 1-0 lead.
 
The rest of the first half passed quietly as neither team found success getting past the opposing defense. Calvin outshot the Polar Bears 8-2 in the first 45 minutes while not allowing Ohio Northern to get any shots on goal.
 
In the second half, defense took center stage as both teams kept the offensive chances to a minimum. By the end of regulation Boeving remained the only goal scorer and the Knights picked up the 1-0 victory. 
 
Calvin outshot the Polar Bears 21-7 while also finishing with seven shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Aubree Lee (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) finished the match with three saves.
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "We are happy to get the result today," said head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "Ohio Northern put a lot of players behind the ball and were challenging to break down. Credit to our group for putting a ball away early. We'll need to regroup on Monday and start to prep for our first game of conference play."
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, September 30th when they kick off MIAA conference play on the road against Adrian at 7 PM.
