TECUMSEH, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team closed the Irish Hills Intercollegiate Invitational in second place thanks to a strong final round on Saturday.
 
The Knights entered the day in fifth place after an opening-round 306 but shot a tournament-best 296 on Saturday for a two-day total of 603 to finish second behind Adrian College with a score of 600.
 
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) shot a 1-under par 71 on Saturday to jump from a tie for ninth place after Friday into third place in the final individual standings. Tuin carded three birdies and added an eagle on the par four fifth hole to finish the tournament at 2-over par.
 
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) jumped 12 spots into a tie for fifth place thanks to an even-par 72 on Saturday, shaving five strokes off his Friday total. After a 3-over par front nine, Tiller carded a back-nine 33 with three birdies and zero bogeys to finish the tournament at 5-over par.
 
Josiah McClelland (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) matched his Friday score of 76 to finish 8-over par for the tournament in a tie for 12th place, while Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy) shot 77 on Saturday for a 12-over par finish for the tournament.
 
Brogan Sherd (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and Alexander Bartish (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids West Catholic) both shot 77 on Saturday.
 
COACH'S COMMENT: "It was a tough first day (Friday)," Calvin head coach Brian Bolt said. "Some good performances today on day two to battle back but we finished just short."
 
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action on Saturday, September 19, when it plays the Knight Cup.
