GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University women's tennis team earned its first MIAA win of the season with a 7-0 sweep of The University of Olivet on Wednesday at Strikwerda Tennis Center.
Calvin (3-6, 1-1 MIAA) evened its league record with the sweep of Olivet (0-9, 0-4 MIAA), winning all three doubles matches and then earning six singles wins in straight sets to close out the win.
The one-doubles team of
Marina Ribeiro (santos Sal Paolo, Brazil/Santa Cecilia) and
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) and the two-doubles team of
Sabrina Lopez (Steger, Ill./Illiana Christian) and
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) both won 6-1, while the three-doubles team of
Elise Norman (Kalamazoo, Mich./Lakeview) and
Ana Ornellas (Londrina, Brazil/Colegio Saber) won 6-0.
In singles, Ribeiro (6-2, 6-0), Morey (6-0, 6-1),
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) (6-1, 6-1),
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) (6-0, 6-0), Lopez (6-1, 6-1) and
Addie Cumings (Hudsonville, Mich./Jenison) (6-0, 6-0) won their singles matches in straight sets while dropping only seven games.
