GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University women's tennis team defeated Adrian College 5-2 on Tuesday at Strikwerda Tennis Center.
Calvin (8-6, 5-1 MIAA) earned its sixth straight win (including five conference matches) with a strong start before topping Adrian (7-11, 2-5 MIAA) in four of six singles contests.
The Knights swept doubles play to take a 1-0 overall lead. The three-doubles team of
Sabrina Lopez (Steger, Ill./Illiana Christian) and
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored the first win by a 6-0 result, followed by the two-doubles team of
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) and
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) with a 6-2 win.
In one-doubles, the team of
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) and
Marina Ribeiro (santos Sal Paolo, Brazil/Santa Cecilia) finished off the sweep with a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaker win.
In singles play, the Bulldogs scored points with wins in the top two spots in the line-up, but the Knights won in straight sets in the 3-6 spots.
Holman (6-3, 6-1),
Elise Norman (Kalamazoo, Mich./Lakeview) (6-1, 6-1), Hooker (6-2, 6-0) and Lopez (6-0, 6-0) each earned singles wins for the Knights.
