GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin rolled to a 16-2 conference victory over Alma Friday night at Calvin Soccer Stadium, improving to 11-5 overall.
More importantly, the Knights improve to 5-1 in the MIAA with the victory to move just ahead of 4-1 Adrian and Hope. Hope will be at Trine on Saturday with Adrian hosting Albion. Calvin will travel to Adrian next Tuesday with Hope hosting Alma that same day which will mark the final day of the MIAA regular season.
Calvin grabbed an 8-1 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back.
Seniors
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) and
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wisc./Watertown HS) along with junior Jessica Eeningenburg (Norton Shores, Mich./Western Michigan Christian HS) all had hat-trick performances. Smith had three goals and two assists while Eeningenburg had three goals and an assist. Bethard had three goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Junior
Megan Gibbs (Perrysburg, Oh./Perrysburg HS) came up with two goals, two assists, five draw controls, one caused turnover and one ground ball.
Sophomore
Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) had a goal, an assist and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Corrine Plumb (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) and freshmen
Kendall Hoving (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS),
Celene Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Naoimi Winiarski (Naperville, Mich./Neuqua Valley) all had one goal apiece. Plumb also had three draw controls.
Sophomore Lilian Morey (Davison, Mich./Davison HS) contributed four draw controls. Senior defenders
Natalie Scott (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian HS) and
Molly Williams (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) had two caused turnovers apiece.
Junior
Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) went the first 38:40 in goal for Calvin and came up with three saves while allowing one goal. Freshman
Katie Dixon (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) went the final 21:20 for the Knights and also had three saves and allowed one goal.

Blake Boehm. "It was a full team win, and they played their hearts out. We transitioned well offensively and defensively. We were aggressive on the draw, strong on defense and diligent with our possessions. We're progressing well and we're looking forward to heading to Adrian next Tuesday."
