GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin got back on the winning track with a 15-7 victory over Northwood University on a cold and windy Tuesday night at Calvin Soccer Stadium.

Calvin led 9-2 at halftime but saw Northwood (0-6) battle the Knights (5-3) on fairly even terms throughout the second half.

Northwood scored the first three goals of the third period to close within four at 9-5 but Calvin responded with goals by junior Megan Gibbs (Perrysburg, Oh./Perrysburg HS), senior Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) and sophomore Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) to regain a seven-goal advantage. Calvin outscored Northwood 3-2 in the fourth quarter to keep a safe distance from the visiting Timber Wolves

Freshman Celene Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) was credited with one assist. Junior goalie Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) came up with nine saves and was credited with the win.

COACHES COMMENT: "I'm proud of the effort the team gave today and the way they hustled and fought through cold weather," said Calvin head coach Blake Boehm. "It was good to see our younger kids get some time and play competitively. We talked about playing to our standard today and holding ourselves accountable to executing at a level we've worked so hard to achieve. Unfortunately, I think we missed the mark on that objective. We've got a lot of work to do to prepare for our (upcoming) conference schedule."

NEXT UP: Calvin returns to action next Wednesday when it travels to Kenyon College for a non-conference game at 5 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio.
