TAMPA, Fla. – The Calvin University women's tennis team continued its Florida trip against tough competition with a 7-0 defeat to Hillsborough Community College (HCC) on Wednesday.
The defending junior college national champions, HCC (4-0) played well against Calvin (1-5) across the board in both singles and doubles on the way to the sweep.
HCC opened the match with the doubles point thanks to winning all three matches by the scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1.
In singles play, HCC was able to win all six matches in straight sets.
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) fell in one-singles 6-2 and 6-2.
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) dropped her two-singles match 6-3 and 6-0.
Ana Ornellas (Londrina, Brazil/Colegio Saber) followed with a 6-0 and 6-0 defeat in three-singles.
In the bottom half of the line-up,
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) fell 6-3 and 6-0 in four-singles,
Sabrina Lopez (Steger, Ill./Illiana Christian) dropped her five-singles match 6-0 and 6-0, and
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) lost in six-singles 6-0 and 6-1.
