MIAMI, Fla. – The Calvin women's lacrosse team opened its spring break trip with a 16-8 victory at St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Wednesday.
Calvin led 9-6 at halftime and then outscored the Bobcats 2-0 in the third quarter to build an 11-6 lead. Calvin (4-2) then scored the opening four goals of the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Senior
Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wisc./Watertown HS) pumped in five goals to lead the Calvin attack. Sophomore
Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) had three goals and an assist. Senior
Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) had three goals and an assist.
Senior
Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) had two goals. Sophomore Corrine Plumb (St. Louis, Mo. /Westminster Christian Academy) had a goal and an assist. Freshman
Celene Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) also had a goal and an assist. Freshman
Jordyn Briseno (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) also had a goal. The goals by Trewyn and Briseno were the first of their collegiate careers.
Calvin build a 3-1 first quarter lead on goals from Smith, Briseno and Johnson. Smith scored on a free-position shot in the closing minutes of the second quarter to give the Knights a 9-6 lead at intermission.
Plumb scored a free position goal in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Booher then scored with just 1:03 left in the quarter to give the Knights an 11-6 lead.
Trewyn ripped in a free position shot to open the fourth quarter with Johnson, Booher and Smith scoring in succession to put the Knights up 15-6. Smith put the capper on the win with a free position goal in the closing minutes.
Sophomore
Madison Goodyke (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) had an assist. Plumb was credited with six draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman
Courtney Putnam (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS) picked up four draw controls and caused two opponent turnovers. Junior
Alex Petrusha (Milford, Mich./Milford HS) had two draw controls and two ground balls. Junior
Megan Gibbs (Perrysburg, Oh./Perrysburg HS) had three draw controls.

Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and freshman
Katie Dixon (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) shared duties in goal with Rizzo recording one save and Dixon four saves.
COACHES COMMENT: "Very proud of the team and its effort today," said Calvin head women's lacrosse coach
Blake Boehm. "They kept their energy up the whole game and they played very composed. We shot well, transitioned fast, played strong defense and caused turnovers all over the field. We're excited for Keiser on Friday!"
