Calvin Baseball Holds Second Annual First Pitch Dinner

The Calvin University baseball team held its second annual First Pitch Dinner fundraiser for the program on Saturday, January 31, at the Holland Fish & Game Club.

The fundraising event featured alumni Jeff Pettinga and Dr. Amber Warners as keynote speakers. Pettinga served as Calvin's head baseball coach for 27 seasons and led the program to four MIAA championships and three trips to the NCAA III Tournament. Warners is a three-time NCAA III National Championship coach with the Calvin women's volleyball program and also serves as Calvin's associate athletic director.

"It was a tremendous night for our program," Calvin head baseball coach Joel Schipper said. "The room was full of energy, belief, and people who genuinely care about what we're building. From generous donations to encouraging conversations, the support was overwhelming. We're incredibly thankful for everyone who showed up, gave, and continues to invest in our players and our mission. Nights like that remind us how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such a generous and supportive community."

Calvin baseball will open the 2026 season when it heads down to Florida on Thursday, March 5, for the start of its annual spring break trip that will feature 16 games.
