The Calvin women's basketball team will travel to Trine University for an MIAA Tournament semifinal game set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Trine's MTI Center. This year's MIAA Tournament is presented by Collegiate Credit Union.Â
Friday will mark the 55
th meeting between Calvin and Trine in a series that dates back to the 1992-93 season and sees Calvin holding a 29-25 series lead. Trine has won 24 of the last 26 meetings. Calvin's last win over Trine was in the 2025 MIAA Tournament Championship game at Trine with the Knights securing a 70-57 win.
Hope will face Albion in Friday's opening semifinal game at 5:30 p.m. with Friday's semifinal winners advancing to the MIAA Tournament Championship game Saturday night at Trine with the title tilt set for 7:30 p.m.
The Calvin Coach-
Mark Christner is in his seventh year as the head coach of the Calvin University women's basketball program. In seven years as head women's basketball coach at Calvin, Christner has fashioned a won-loss record of 114-60. A 1999 Calvin graduate, Christner played three years of basketball with the Calvin men's basketball program and later served as an assistant coach with both the men's and women's programs. He went on to a 10-year stint as the head men's basketball coach at Waynesburg University (Pa.) before returning to his alma mater in the spring of 2019. He led Calvin to a 18-11 overall record a year ago which included an MIAA Tournament crown and a berth in the NCAA III Tournament. The MIAA Tourney crown was Calvin's first since 2015 while the NCAA III Tourney berth was Calvin's first since 2017. Â He has led Calvin to the MIAA Tournament semifinals in his six prior years as head coach. His wife Sara (Plasman) Christner played one year with the Calvin women's basketball program and four years with the Calvin women's softball program.
Preseason Honors – Calvin senior guard
Anna Fernandez was named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Fourth Team prior to the season. A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Fernandez leads Calvin in scoring at 16.0 points a game. She was named to the 2025 All-MIAA First Team and to the 2025 D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team. Fernandez spent her freshman campaign at Wheaton where she scored 216 points on the women's basketball team.
1,000 Point Plateau – Calvin senior
Anna Fernandez cracked the 1,000 point plateau for her collegiate career in a January 14 win over Kalamazoo. She scored 216 points her freshman year at Wheaton and has since scored 964 points at Calvin for an overall collegiate total of 1,180 points heading into tonight.

Regular Season Meetings – Trine defeated Calvin 46-40 at Calvin's Van Noord Arena on January 21 and then topped the Knights 71-65 at Trine's MTI Center on February 14. In the January contest, Calvin jumped out to a 20-1 lead in the second quarter and led 21-10 at halftime. Calvin was outscored 16-6 in the third quarter and 20-13 in the fourth quarter as the Thunder pulled out the win. Madison Wagner had 12 points including a key 3-pointer late in the contest. Calvin was led by RyAnn Rohrer with 18 points and 11 rebounds with Anna Fernandez chipping in with 11. In the return matchup in February, Calvin led 47-43 in the third quarter but Trine forged a 50-50 tie at the quarter break and scored the first eight points of the second half to take control of the game. Katelyn LaRue had 15 points, three assists and a pair of steals for Calvin. RyAnn Rohrer had 14 points and Anna Fernandez 13 points. Annika Southworth scored a game-high 21 points for Trine with Ally Capouch recording 19 and Madison Wagner 13.
Wednesday Rewind – Calvin recorded a 60-51 first round MIAA Tournament win over Alma. The Knights were 7 of 19 from three-point range and pulled away with 18 fourth quarter points. Calvin held a 50-43 rebounding edge including 19-11 on the offensive glass. Anna Fernandez had a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. RyAnn Rohrer also had a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Ashley Raredon scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
MIAA Statline– In conference games, Calvin was third in the MIAA in scoring offense (64.4 ppg) and third in scoring defense (52.9 ppg). Calvin is third in the MIAA in defensive field goal percentage (.369) and third in offensive field goal percentage (.411). Fernandez finished second in the MIAA in scoring average (16.4 ppg) with Rohrer fifth (13.6 ppg). Rohrer finished third in rebounding average (7.8) and second in field goal percentage (.474).
Chloe Wiegers finished third in assists-per-game (3.4) and No. 1 in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.0).
Lydia Sall is second in blocked shots per game (2.5) while Rohrer was second in steals-per-game (2.3).
Against Ranked Opponents – Calvin is 2-5 this year against nationally-ranked opponents, defeating No. 9 UW-Whitewater 61-53 on November 29 and No. 6 Bowdoin 61-51 on December 30 while falling to No. 67-56 to No. 9 ranked Hope on January 3. Calvin also owns a 70-45 win over Ohio Wesleyan (Nov. 14) which has since risen to No. 15 in the WBCA and No. 16 in the D3hoops.com poll. In addition, Calvin fell to (then unranked) Chicago 73-65 in overtime on December 6, then lost to No. 9 Hope 67-56 on January 3 and on Jan. 21, fell 46-40 to No. 25 Trine. On January 24, Calvin fell 57-55 in overtime to No. 9 Hope and then dropped a 71-65 decision at No. 20 Trine on February 14.  Â
Two-Sport Standout – Calvin has again received strong contributions from senior forward
RyAnn Rohrer who graduated from Ludington High School. Rohrer averages 12.2 points and a team-leading 8.0 rebounds a game. She has six double-doubles this season. She missed last year's basketball campaign, rehabbing from an injury but managed to compete in both indoor and outdoor track and field last year. As a sophomore, she was a D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team selection as well as a First Team All-MIAA honoree. In May of 2023 Rohrer was the MIAA Most Valuable Field Event Performer in outdoor track and field for her efforts in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. Rohrer is the third sibling in her family to attend Calvin as her twin brothers were hurdlers on the Calvin men's track and field team from 2013-2017. RyAnn is an accomplished track and field athlete herself as she captured the 2022 Division II state titles in both the shot put and discus. She was also a starter on Ludington's Division II girls basketball state semifinalist team in 2022.

Legacy Knights –Juniors Hannah and
Lydia Sall are Calvin basketball legacy Knights although their lineage is through the men's side where their father – Calvin head men's basketball coach Bill Sall – was a two-time All-American from 1986-1990. Hannah and
Lydia Sall are triplets with their brother Quinton a junior on the Calvin men's basketball team. Senior point guard Sam DeKuiper also has strong Calvin ties. Her grandfather Mike DeKuiper was a strong player for the Calvin men's basketball team between 1969-1973 while her aunt Ronnie DeKuiper was a four-year member of the Calvin women's basketball team from 1988-1992. Her brother Mikey DeKuiper is a member of the Calvin men's basketball team.
