Calvin University sophomore
Abe VanDuinen was named MIAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
VanDuinen (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) won the honor following a strong performance at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Saturday, February 14.
At Saturday's event, VanDuinen ran a personal-best time of 1:53.65 in the 800 meters to break the Calvin indoor record of 1:54.49, previously set by Alex Wrobel in 2010.
The time jumped VanDuinen to the top of the MIAA standings for this indoor season and currently ranks 50th in NCAA III.
Calvin track and field returns to action on Friday, February 20, when it returns to GVSU for a tune up meet.
