Calvin Men’s Tennis Drops Match at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team faced off with NCAA II Ferris State University on Saturday in a 7-0 defeat.

Calvin (0-2) continued its stretch of tough competition to prepare themselves for the upcoming conference season against the strong FSU (5-1) team.

FSU won all three of the doubles matches to earn the one point for doubles. The top showing for the Knights in that part of the competition came from the number-three team of Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Caleb Bartels (Loch Lloyd, Mo./Kansas City Christian), who forced a tiebreaker but fell 7-6 (7-1).

The other two doubles matches went to the Bulldogs by the scores of 6-2 (number-one) and 6-3 (number-two).

In singles, the Bulldogs finished off the win by taking all six matches in straight sets.

COACH'S COMMENT: "The men had some positive takeaways today," head coach George Rodriguez said. "They are starting to evolve into multi-dimensional players. Something we have been working hard to accomplish as a team. They realize the importance of implementing a dynamic approach to their games and starting to learn how to adapt that style of play. It's been great to see their progress and development. We have more growth ahead of us but it's been a fun ride seeing their progress."

NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis will return to action on Wednesday, February 25, when it plays at Spring Arbor University at 4:00 PM.
