TECUMSEH, Mich. – The Calvin University men's golf team tied for second place at MIAA Jamboree #2 on Saturday at Tecumseh Golf Club.
The Knights finished the round with a team score of 293, shooting 5-over par to tie Albion College and Kalamazoo College behind only Trine University's 3-over par score of 291.
Three Calvin players finished the day ranked inside the top 10, led by
Reuben Kok (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy) and
Ian Tuin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) with matching score of even-par 72 to tie for third place. Kok started his round 3-over par through the first 11 holes but closed with birdies on three of his final seven holes to get back to even par, while Tuin birdied his last hole (his fifth of the day) to record his 72.
Ethan Tiller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central) tied for seventh place following a round of 73 and
Ford Erickson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) rounded out the top four in a tie for 25th place with a score of 76.
Dylan Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) shot 80 as the fifth Calvin golfer.
Brogan Sherd (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Ian Bavis (Dead Man's Flats, Alberta, Canada/Edge School) played as individual entrants and shot 76 and 78, respectively.
Following the round, the Knights remain in second place in the team standings behind Trine by four strokes. The Knights have a total of 575 through two (of six) MIAA rounds while Trine is at 571.
COACH'S COMMENT: "We played a solid tourney today," head coach
Brian Bolt said. "We fell a bit short of our goals for the day, so looking ahead we need to add to this good performance and just be a little sharper. Overall, we are pleased to be very much in the mix after two MIAA tournaments."
NEXT UP: Calvin men's golf will return to action on Monday, October 12, when it plays in the one-day Cornerstone Invite at Thousand Oaks Country Club.
