OLIVET, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's soccer team picked up a commanding 9-0 road win over the Comets of Olivet. After today's match the Knights improved to 13-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in MIAA conference play.
The Knights wasted no time getting things rolling when junior
Olivia Rawls (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) slipped a pass through two Comet defenders and found a streaking
Vivian Nagelkirk (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian). Nagelkirk didn't hesitate as she fired a shot past the Comets goalkeeper to give Calvin a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game.
In the 12th minute, senior defender
Katherine Bergman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) sent an arching ball towards the top of the eighteen-yard box. Fellow senior
Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) finished off the play nicely when she flicked the ball onward with her head and into the top right corner of the net to extend the Knights lead.
Waroway stayed hot when she recorded an assist six minutes later, finding sophomore
Lexi Glowicki (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran High North) while freshman
Emmy Braman (Byron Center, Mich./Calvin Christian) recorded the first goal of her Calvin career in the twenty-fourth minute off an assists from
Bianca Juncaj (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington Hills North).
Juncaj notched her second assist of the game when she found
Alexa Boersma (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) while
Zoe Zylstra (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) also got in on the goal scoring action in the first half and the Knights headed into halftime with a whopping 6-0 lead over the Comets.
In the second half, senior
Lydia Jacobs (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic) took command of the field and dished out three assists with sophomore
Brianna Kozlowski (Boulder, Colo./Jefferson Academy), senior
Lindsay Hart (Midland, Mich./HH Dow), and freshman
Nena Kucinski (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) each recording a goal. The Knights outshot the Comets 42-2 and eventually walked away with the dominant 9-0 victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Aubree Lee (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) notch two saves and recorded her tenth clean sheet in a row.
