Calvin University junior midfielder
Colin Nieuwenhuis was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer on Monday.
Nieuwenhuis (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) won the honor for his performance in helping the Knights open MIAA play with a 2-0 record with wins at Adrian College (1-0) and at home against Alma College (8-0).
In the two wins, Nieuwenhuis recorded one goal and two assists (one in each game). After assisting on the lone goal in the win at Adrian on October 7, Nieuwenhuis scored the first goal against Alma in the second minute on a penalty kick before adding a helper in the second half to help propel the Knights to the win.
This season, Nieuwenhuis leads Calvin in points (21) and assists (seven) while ranking second on the team in goals (seven).
The two wins pushed the 14th-ranked Knights to 10-1-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to nine.
